Not the one I spotted. But a much better picture.
There have been a few
special
Holden Commodores over the years. Today I saw one. I present to you the Walkinshaw VL.
This is my pic. It’s terrible I’m so sorry
A homologation race car with a wild-for-its-time bodykit and a fancy V8 or something (‘coz ‘straya), only available in silver they’re not hard to spot if you’re lucky enough to be in the presence of one.
It was with a group of other fancy Commodores (though none quite so fancy) out for a Sunday cruise. I didn’t spot the king in there (the 7L W427), but I have seen one before. My car spotting skills are
dope.

’s a listing of one for sale near me. The same dealership has an Enzo, LaFerrari and a Bugatti EB110 - that’s the sort of status this car gets over here.

I’d totally take one over a Lotus Carlton/Omega.
So badass.

it looks like something someone made in a shop class from 3 different kits.

So would Walkinshaw be something like the equivalent of Lingenfelter here in the US?

Nah not really. It’s just a name - Tom Walkinshaw. Things were muddy back then, with the Holden Dealer Team producing faster Commodores, and Holden Special Vehicles doing the same. This was technically an HSV, and HSV are still around these days building things like the Maloo.
HSV are more like AMG. They’re tied to Holden and they make faster ones.

That’s the late 80s for ya. At least they didn’t hold back, right? If they did I probably wouldn’t be making this post!

I think I’d prefer a Carlton myself. I’ve been in VL Commodores and other earlier ones, they’ve always got that musk of an old car that’s showing its age. I’m not sure one of these would be so different.
A properly maintained one would be a hoot though I’m sure.
